Understanding Asthma Pathophysiology

In this article we will take on understanding asthma pathophysiology including causes, symptoms, and possible remedies.

Getting to Understand Asthma

For easy understanding, the facts will be organized in various subheadings and, at times, bullet points will be utilized.

1. What Is Asthma?

Asthma is a respiratory system condition in which the airways of a patient narrows, swells and produces mucus.

Patients experience breathing difficulties, and this causes coughing, shortness of breath and wheezing.

For some people this condition is just a minor nuisance, but for others it can be a major problem, interfering with their day-to-day activities, or it may even lead to a life-threatening asthma attack.

Getting to Understand Asthma

2. What Are The Causes of Asthma?

It is still not clear why some people get infected with asthma while others don’t, even when exposed to similar environmental conditions.

Probably, the discrepancy is due to a combination of genetic factors, which are inherent, and environmental factors.

Generally speaking, exposure to substances that cause an allergy is known to trigger symptoms and signs of asthma.

These triggers are different from person to person, and may include the following:

a.  Air contaminants such as fumes and smoke.

b.  Physical activities can cause exercise-induced asthma.

Getting to Understand Asthma

c.  Menstruation also triggers asthma in some women.

d.  Preservatives and sulfites added to some foods and          beverages may trigger asthma in some people.

e.  Gastroesophageal reflux disease, a condition whereby stomach acids back up in the throat, is a known cause of asthma.

f.  Some medications such as aspirin and beta blockers among others also can cause asthma in some people.

g.  Other common causes include cold air, strong emotions, and stress.

3. What Are The Symptoms of Asthma?

Asthma symptoms are not hard to detect. They range from minor to severe, but they vary from one person to another.

The asthma signs and symptoms are as listed below:

a. Wheezing and coughing attacks. This can get worse when there is viral infection of the respiratory system such as a flu or cold or other viral infections such as we have experienced of late.

b. Patients may also experience whistling sounds when inhaling.

c. Shortness of breath is a common symptom.

d. Chest tightening and pain

e. Patients may experience difficulties in sleeping due to constant coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.

When the above symptoms become more troublesome, and breathing becomes more difficult, then it may more often necessitate the use of a quick-relief inhaler.

Getting to Understand Asthma

At this point then patients should realize that their asthma condition is worsening.

4. What Are The Remedies For Asthma?

There are a myriad of asthma medicines available, but it may be difficult for patients to choose which one to buy.

It is important to know that asthma medicines occur in two different types, the controller and the quick relief.

The controller type is taken to prevent a patient from asthma attacks and symptoms. They can be used on a day-to-day basis.

The relief type  is taken when a patient already has an attack, for the purpose of nullifying the symptoms.

Getting to Understand Asthma

However, it is important to always seek the advice of a doctor in the case of the symptoms.

Remember that asthma can be life-threatening!

Dealing With Depression Alone

Many out there would likely argue that the present pandemic has  given lots of chances for dealing with depression alone.

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

Everyone on this planet will have experienced physical pain at one time or another, and there is also the chance that they have suffered mentally and emotionally, especially during this past year.

Although it could be said that there is a greater awareness around the former than the latter, it doesn’t mean that this is because what is taking place within can simply be overlooked.

One Outlook

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

As based on how today’s world is, it would be easy to say that what is taking place at a mental and emotional level is not as important as what is taking place at a physical level.

There is then no reason for each area to receive the same amount of attention and everything should stay as it is.

If one has suffered mentally or emotionally, they will know that physical pain is not something that is more important.

They could find it hard to understand why the world is the way it is, and this is to be expected.

Another View

At the same time, if one hasn’t suffered in the same way, they might find it easy to understand why someone would have this outlook.

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

In their eyes, mental or emotional pain could be seen as something that doesn’t have much of an effect on how someone experiences life.

In this case, if they were to come across someone who is suffering in this way, they might wonder why they can’t just ‘get over it’, for instance.

They could believe that these kinds of people are weak.

Giving Advice

Therefore, if they were to come across someone who is suffering, they may tell them that they need to toughen up.

And that if they were to start taking action or to simply change their life, they would soon feel better.

Still, it would be inaccurate to say this outlook will apply to everyone, as there will be people that have good understanding of what it is like.

This could be a sign that they have friends and/or family who have a mental or emotional problem.

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

In The Past

Along with this, one may also have suffered themselves, in one way or another in the past, and this then gives them a deeper understanding of what it is like.

Either way, they will have the ability to empathize with people who are suffering as opposed to dismissing their experience.

As when one looks down on people who suffer mentally or emotionally, or wonders why they can’t just ‘get it together’, it can be a sign that they find it hard to empathize.

But if they can empathize, then it shows that something is allowing them to put themselves in these people’s shoes.

Shame

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

One of the main reasons why physical pain receives more attention than mental and emotional pain is due to the following:

For all too long, having mental and emotional problems has been seen as something to be ashamed of.

This has then stopped people from reaching out for the support that they need, and it then sets them up to suffer in silence and alone.

Fortunately, as time has passed, this is starting to change; however, there are still plenty of people who are unable to reach out for the support they desperately need.

Part of Life

Having a mental and/or emotional problem can then become a life sentence and not something that one can gradually move beyond.

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

It then won’t matter what kind of condition their body is in, as they won’t be able to enjoy the life that they have been given.

One of the most common mental and emotional problems that someone can suffer from is depression.   During the present pandemic this has become even more prevalent.

This can be something that is fairly mild, or it can be something that is far more extreme.

Depression

Through depression, one can feel down and lose interest in life.   Each day will then be a struggle.

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

This is not to say that everyone experiences depression  the same, as there can be a difference in how if affects people.

At the same time, this is how lots of people experience life when they are depressed.   And when one ends up feeling depressed, they can end up suffering in silence or they can go and see their doctor, for instance.

The Second Option

If one was to go to see their doctor, they might end up being referred to a therapist and/or end up being put on antidepressants.

It could be said that it would be better for them to work with a therapist than to simply take something.

The reason for this is that it will give them the chance to look into why they are experiencing life in this  way; whereas if they were to simply take something, they wouldn’t be able to gain a better understanding of themselves.

There is also the chance that it might be better for them to avoid taking anything, but this can all depend on the circumstances.

Self-Reflection

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

Through working with a therapist, it will give them the chance to bring their attention within themselves and to take a deeper look into why they are experiencing life in this way.

Yet this doesn’t mean that one needs to work with a therapist in order to do this, as they can often do this by themselves.

This can be a time where one can think about when they first started to experience life in this way and what was taking place for them at that time.

Or if this in an experience that comes and goes, they can look into what takes place when it comes and what takes place when it goes.

A Process

When one’s point of focus is on what is taking place within them, they will be observing their thoughts, emotions and sensations.

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

The feelings that arise within them could relate to something that has occurred during their adult life or what took place during their childhood.

This can then mean that one is carrying trapped emotions in their body, and this will have an effect on what is taking place in their head.

But like most things in life, it can take a while before one is able to observe what is taking place within them.

Different Factors

At the same time, this doesn’t mean that depression is also caused by what is taking place within them, as it can be due to what they eat, the kind of environment they live in and what has been passed down from their ancestors.

When their experience is not their own and it has been passed down, they will be suffering out of their need to be loyal.

Awareness

Depression: Is Self-Awareness An Important Part Of Dealing With Depression?

Through developing self-awareness one will be able to get the ball moving and from here, they can begin to see  why they are experiencing life as they are,

The alternative would be for one to have absolutely no awareness of what is taking place within them and it would then be a lot harder for them to change their life.

If one wants to develop self-awareness, they can do this through working with a therapist and by meditating.

Reading books on self-development can also help.

Are there any comments or observations?

Money And Mental Health

Hopefully the following article will help to answer  at least some of the questions about the relationship between money and mental health.

Mental Health Is Related to Financial Health

Financial health is often linked to an individual’s mental health.

Constant worrying can deteriorate one’s mental health, leading to several mental disorders; whereas, an existing mental illness may deprive someone of his or her ability to manage finances efficiently.

Poor financial health is often associated with piling debts. According to a recent report from the Urban Institute, approximately 35 percent of Americans have debt in collections.

An individual’s debt, which could be a combination of high credit card balances, medical bills and unpaid utilities, may have an adverse impact on his or her psychological state.

How mind and money are intertwined

Mental Health Is Related to Financial Health

While a healthy mind can deal with debt in an efficient manner, a healthy and smart financial condition can work wonders for the mind.

Financial problems and challenges can lead to severe stress and worry, but one can always find a way out or use someone else’s perspective to find a remedy.

Financial worries can have the following impact on the brain:

  • An excessive expenditure or increasing debt can cause tremendous anxiety in spite of having a healthy bank balance.
  • Spending may give some anxious people a temporary high, but dealing with financial crisis or debts can heighten the existing stress and anxiety about an unknown future.
  • Simple things in life, such as planning for food, accommodation or medications, may seem cumbersome in the absence of finances, causing further stress and anxiety.
  • Debts or financial problems can affect relationships and social life, which can have a debilitating effect on  mental health.
  • Studies have demonstrated a strong link between suicide and debt. People who committed suicide are eight times more likely to be burdened by debt.
  • Additionally, those who are weighed down by debt are more vulnerable to problem drinking and drug dependence.

Mental Health Is Related to Financial Health

What comes first?

Some researchers believe that a chronic anxiety about one’s financial difficulties and mounting debt can increase stress levels and reduce resilience against certain mental health issues.

On the contrary, some other researchers view mental health problems as major obstacles in managing finances effectively.

Getting stuck in debts increases the possibility of being affected by a mental illness.

A mental health problem may increase the risk of a significant growth in debt and other financial problems due to inability to sustain a regular source of income.

Though debt is a manageable issue, constant struggles with anxiety and depression might ruin the ability to seek a solution to solve the financial crisis.

Moreover, someone burdened with debts will certainly not be in a position to pay for his or her mental health treatment.

But whatever be the situation, it is important to deal with financial difficulties and ease one’s stress, since money troubles can have a long-lasting negative impact on the brain.

Seeking professional help

Mental Health Is Related to Financial Health

According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), approximately one in five adults in America experiences a mental illness each year.

Studies have shown that a significant number of Americans suffering from mental health problems are also likely to be in debt.

A sound mental health plays an important role in money management. Therefore, it is vital to be aware of this association to find out effective and customized solutions.

How To Boost Your Brainpower

Today  we want to take a look at how to boost your brainpower because no one wants to have cloudy thinking,  be forgetful,  or illogical,  right?

Boost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

‘Brain foods’ can help!

We all have days when our thinking is fuzzy, our logic defies reason, when we can’t for the life of us remember some name or fact that was so familiar just the day before.

On days like those, you might want to trade in your grey matter for a new, improved model with rechargeable batteries and a software system that lets you discover the unknown secrets of the universe in one easy lesson.

Unfortunately, we have to make do with what Mother Nature has given us.  Luckily, that is usually more than adequate.

With better nutrition, we can make better use of the brainpower we do have – and even stave off the mental deterioration we know as senility.

Oxygen Clears The Mind, Keep All Circuits Functioning!

IRON – POOR INTELLECT

“The brain needs large amount of oxygen to function effectively, and the only way it can get it is through iron packed red blood cells” says Don M. Tucker, associate professor of psychology at the University of Oregon.

Some studies show that children with iron – deficiency anemia have short attention spans and trouble learning new material. They also show the boosting iron intake reverses those problems.

Alertness And Memory Can Suffer With “Low But Normal” Iron Levels!

Dr. Tucker’s research shows that adults can suffer from related problems with alertness and memory when their iron levels are in the “low but normal” range.

In one study, for instance, the higher the blood iron levels, the greater the word fluency.   (Volunteers were asked to come up with as many words as they could that begin with “Q” and end with “L”.

Boost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

In another, in adults over age 60, blood iron levels were one of the more important measures in determining whether or not the person has normal brainwave patterns.

“Getting enough oxygen to the brain is certainly part of its function, but we think iron also influences brain chemical and pathways,” Dr. Tucker says. “We know now that iron is heavily concentrated in a part of the reticular activating system.

This area of the brain turns the brain on, so to speak. It maintains alertness.

So we can’t help but think that iron plays an important role in awareness and alertness.”

Sources of Iron: Liver, brain, kidney, meat, fish, oysters, shrimps, egg yolk, beans, cereals, lentils, leafy vegetables, drumstick leaves.

“B” SMARTBoost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

The brain seems o have a special need for the B Vitamins.  Memory loss, disorientation, hallucinations, lack of coordination, and personality changes can occur with B-complex deficiencies.

Short-Term Memory Is Sometimes Impaired In Alcoholics Who Develop Thiamine Deficiencies.

Boost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

Alcoholics, for instance, who sometimes develop thiamine (B1) deficiencies, have problems with short-term memory. They may remember in detail that little café in Paris 20 year ago, but not what they had for supper the previous night.

Thiamine may also keep the brain thinking straighter and younger.

An orthopedic surgeon in England thinks that thiamine deficiency can cause confusion and that confusion can lead to stumbles and broken bones.

The surgeon, M. W. J. Older, had noticed that people who come to him for hip and thighbone surgery all experienced a dip in their thiamine levels as results of the stress of the operation.

He also noticed that until the thiamine shortage passed, the patients suffered a bout of confusion.

Digging a little deeper, Dr. Older found that patients who come in for elective hip surgery, planned in advance, that is, weren’t thiamine  deficient before the operation, and that their post surgical thiamine deficiency didn’t last so long.

But the patients with emergency fractures, he discovered, were deficient before, during, and after their operations.

That raised the possibility that preoperative thiamine-related confusion may even helped cause the emergencies.

“Mental confusion in the elderly awaits further study, “Dr. Older notes, “but our data supports the concept that thiamine deficiency may be a contributory factor to postoperative confusion.”

” We suggest that the causation of fracture itself may be attributable to thiamine deficiency, with confusion precipitating the fall”.

The Most Promising Anti-Senility Nutrients?

If there were a contest for the most promising anti-senility nutrients, the prize might be awarded to vitamin B6 and copper.

Two University of Texas nutritionists have reported (in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition), the remarkable news that a deficiency of B6 or copper in young rats causes some of the same kind of brain cell abnormalities as those seen in senile humans.

Boost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

The results implied that those two nutrients might prevent mental decline.

Science, of course, is never that simple.  But the evidence seems striking.

The researches found, among other things, that in rats and humans, the dendrites – delicate, branching roots that carry electrical impulses from one brain cell to another – tend to shrivel up and die when deprived of B6 or copper.

Without the all important dendrites, brain circuitry breaks down.

Though the rats were fed a diet skimpier in the two nutrients than any human diet would be, the researches said that a mild deficiency of those nutrients over the years could have the same devastating effect.

The Texas researches, Elizabeth Root and John Longenecker, recommended getting adequate of B6, copper and other nutrients into the diet as soon as possible for the sake of prevention.

For Best Results, Catch The Deficiencies Early!

If you catch these changes early then you might prevent some of the neurological damage from occurring,

Dr. Root says. “But it’s not just B6 and copper.  People who have a poor diet in general are the most likely to get into trouble. We’re starting some more experiments on the possible effects of deficiencies in magnesium and foliate, two nutrients that also come up low in most diet surveys.”

Sources: B1 (thiamine): Unpolished rice, wheat, bajra and jowar.

B6: Egg yolk, liver, meat, fish, milk, whole grains, cabbage and other green vegetables.

Copper: liver, nuts, dried fruits, cereals, pulses, meat products, fruits, vegetables, oysters and fish.

Even Mild Deficiencies Of B12, C, Folate, And Riboflavin Can Impede Brain Function.

KEEPING A KEEN MIND

Actually, there’s evidence that physically healthy people over age 60 can be measurably keener of mind than their peers if they maintain sufficient dietary levels of vitamins B12, C, Foliate and riboflavin.

Even  virtually unnoticeable deficiencies of those nutrients can mean less than optimal brain function.

At the University of New Mexico, senility experts Jean Goodwin and her husband, James Goodwin, and others placed advertisements in newspaper and on TV and radio asking for volunteers for an experiment.

Each volunteer had to be at least 60 years old, free of all serious diseases, and not on medication.

After a screening process, Goodwin chose 260 men and women between the ages of 60 and 94 from various social and income levels.

All the volunteers gave a sample of their blood and filled out a three day food diary stating exactly that they ate during that period.

Taken together, the blood test and diet survey showed the researchers almost exactly what each person’s levels of most vitamins and minerals were.

Memory And Problem-Solving Tests Administered To 260 People Yielded Definite Nutritional Links.

After the process, the volunteers underwent two mental performance tests.

In the first one, a researcher read a one paragraph story to each person and asked him/her to repeat it as quickly and accurately as possible. A half hour later the volunteers had to recite the paragraph from memory, with no cues.

The second test measured each person’s ability to solve non-verbal problems and to think abstractly.

The researchers fed all the test scores and nutritional profiles into a computer and waited to see if good nutrition would correlate with quicker thinking.

It turned out that the volunteers with the lowest B12 and C Levels scored worst on the memory test.

Those with the lowest level of B12, C, Foliate and riboflavin did worst on the problem solving test.

Boost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

“We showed that in population of healthy older people, those people who had a deficient intake and low blood levels of certain vitamins scored significantly worse on the test,” said Dr Jean Goodwin.

“Our recommendation is that everyone maintain an adequate intake of those nutrients,”

Sources: B12: Milk, cheese, eggs, beef kidney, heart and liver, chicken liver. (Animal foods are the main source, and pure vegetarians who exclude even milk from their diet, run a risk of developing a deficiency)

Foliate: Vegetables, cereals, Meat and liver.

Riboflavin: Milk, meat, cereals and pulses.

Vitamin C: Green vegetables, fruits (especially guavas, oranges, sweet limes and lemons) and fresh crop potatoes.

THE PROMISE OF CHOLINE

Thiamine and B12 are also needed to produce and use one of the brain’s major chemical messengers, acetylcholine.

Choline: The Active Component Of “Brain Foods” Like Fish, Liver, And Eggs.

Boost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

But the real star in acetylcholine production is another B vitamin, choline.

Menu of the foods touted as “brain foods” – fish for instance, liver and eggs contain choline, a substance researches are finding really can help preserve the brain’s ability to reason learn, and remember.

Choline is the building block for a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine that sends messages between brain cells.

For instance, researchers at Ohio State University recently found that mice fed a diet heavy in choline rich lecithin had much better memory retention than mice on regular diets.

They took much longer to go into back room in their cages where they had received a mild electric shock, meaning they hadn’t forgotten their unpleasant experience.

What’s more, their brain cells, examined under a microscope, showed fewer of the expected sighs of aging, says Ronald Mervis of Ohio state University’s Brain Aging and Neuronal Plasticity Research Group.

Can Lecithin Provide A Brain Boost?

Like fiber or fish oil, lecithin is slowly becoming a household word. You may have heard of it already.

What’s the big to do? Studies have suggested that lecithin may aid memory and even slow down or prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

But what is lecithin? Found naturally in soybean, eggs, butter, corn and milk, lecithin is used in medicines, food, even cosmetics as a wetting, emulsifying and penetrating agent.

Boost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

It’s the lecithin that keeps the fat and the cocoa from separating  in chocolate, for instance, and in keeps margarine from splattering when hot.

For years, lecithin has been sold in health food stores in the west as a treatment for everything, from heart disease to weight loss. In fact so many claims have been made that some proponents are worried about over kill.

Just how solid is the lecithin memory connection?

“Lecithin is precursor to choline, and scientists are excited about animal studies that suggest lecithin may slow down one part of the ageing process: the degeneration of brain cells, and therefore normal age-related memory loss.”, says Dr. Mervis,

“Normally, as the brain ages, its cell membranes become more rigid with fatty deposits and lose their ability to take in and release brain chemicals and to merely messages.”

Boost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

This can cause memory loss and the confused thinking.

A Lecithin-Rich Diet Appears To Keep Nerve Channels Open.

But a lecithin rich diet seems to repress or delay this membrane hardening.

As part of the deterioration process, aging brain cells also tend to lose dendrite spines, the chemicals receptor areas that are vitally important is passing along information.

Having too few dendrite spines is like having a bad phone connection. Messages get distorted and lost.

But lecithin fed older mice had the same number of dendrite spines as much younger mice.

“Despite the difference between mice and people there are, nevertheless, remarkable similarities in the structure of their newer cells,” Says Dr Mervis. “I believe lecithin could help to repress or delay similar problems in people.”

Can Lecithin Boost Min Power In Normal, Healthy People?

In fact, in some studies, lecithin has shown some promise in boosting the mind power of normal, healthy persons.

“Our studies show that choline has a week modern memory enhancement effect” says Dr. Mervis. “It’s not a robust effect, but it can be measured.”

On two separate days, they gave ten healthy volunteers, ranging in age from 21 to 29, either a supplement of 10 mgs  of choline chloride or an identical appearing but worthless substitute. Then after an hour and a half, the people were given a memory test.

In a serial learning test, subjects had to memorize a sequence of ten unrelated words in proper order. Boost Your Brainpower With Super Nutrition

The list was read to each person and repeated as often as necessary until perfect recall was achieved and could be repeated twice in a row.

“Choline significantly enhanced serial recall of unrelated words as measure by the number o trials required… ,” the researchers reported. “Furthermore, the enhancement was more pronounce in ‘slower’ subjects than in subjects who performed well.”

Indeed, Choline Enhanced Memory – Particularly In People Who Were Forgetful.

In other words, the people most in need of help had their memories prodded the most when they took choline. One individual who normally need six trial readings to master a ten-word list cut that to four after taking choline. Another dropped from seven to five attempts with choline supplement.

One person who normally required ten trials to aster a list of difficult words reduced to five (a 50 percent improvement!) after taking choline.

Long-Term Effects Of Choline Supplementation Are Still Unknown.

As promising as Dr. Mervis’ results were, however, he’s as quick to point out that many questions still remain.

For example, these tests measured memory 90 minutes after a single dose of choline and the doses of choline given in these tests were at lest three times as great as the 900 milligrams or less supplied by a typical diet.

We still don’t know how long the effects last or whether they would continue over several weeks or months if extra choline were consumed daily.

And the trials involved only younger, healthy volunteers with a normal range of remembering ability.

Moreover, high doses of lecithin can cause gastrointestinal cramps, diarrhea or nausea in some people.

So, what can we say for sure about lecithin?

Basically, that we really need more solid evidence before promoting it as a super nutrient. Some great ideas turn out to be the truth.  But the whole truth about lecithin is still to be learned.

Meanwhile there’s no harm in upping your intake of fish, soybeans and corn. You may just give your brain power a little boost.

Upper Respiratory Infections

Especially in this era of Covid-19 everyone on the planet has good reason to be  concerned about upper respiratory infections.

Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them

The symptoms are obvious-scratchy throat, runny eyes, sneezing and coughing, and a slight fever.

Maybe it’s just the start of a cold or maybe it’s something more.   It could be an upper respiratory infection, even Covid-19 or one of it’s dreaded variants.

Here’s how you can avoid one, and what you should do if you have one.

Recognize the Symptoms

Often, an upper respiratory infection will mimic the symptoms of a cold: the patient may run a slight fever, suffer from a scratchy or sore throat, and sneeze or cough often.

This can also be accompanied with feeling slightly achy or chilled, just as with a cold.Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them

Though they usually are not caused by a bacterial infection, a viral infection can be a likely culprit.

A cold may certainly evolve into an upper respiratory infection.

Any time someone who suffers from emphysema or has had pneumonia begins to develop an upper respiratory infection, medical attention is necessary so the infection won’t worsen and turn into something far worse.

Asthma sufferers must also be careful around those with upper respiratory infections, as they are far more susceptible than the average person.

Avoidance and Treatment

Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them

One of the best ways to avoid an upper respiratory infection is to stay out of crowds, especially in fall and winter, when the weather and other conditions-such as children returning to school-which may precipitate a more physically crowded environment.

Wash hands often with anti-bacterial soap or if soap and water are unavailable (such as when traveling) use an anti-bacterial hand sanitizer or hand-sanitizing lotion or gel.

Should a coughing or sneezing fit occur, cover the mouth and nose, and try to sneeze “into” the shoulder or elbow to avoid spraying with contaminated mucus or sputum.

Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them

Nowadays, with the Covid pandemic in progress, we are all being encouraged to wear a facial mask around the nose and mouth, and try to avoid large groups, especially of children and the elderly, as these two age groups are far more susceptible to lung trouble and upper respiratory infections.

If the infection doesn’t begin to clear itself from the body within a few days, or if symptoms last longer than 14 days,(or if you know that you have been exposed to or tested positive with the Covid virus) seek medical attention.

Most respiratory infections are caused by an irritant in the mucus membranes of the nose or throat.

Sometimes the irritant can be viral but sometimes be caused by bacteria. If this is the case, a doctor may have to. prescribe anti-biotic medication before the infection evolves into emphysema or pneumonia.

Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them.

Upper respiratory infections can happen to anyone at any time, but they are more likely to occur in the fall or winter months, and are more likely to cause difficulties for small children, the elderly, or anyone who may already suffer from respiratory difficulties.

The best way to avoid infection is to frequently wash hands, avoid crowds, and seek medical attention when appropriate.

Since having a strong immune system is vital in preventing and fighting upper respiratory infections, you may also wish to avail yourself of very inexpensive and helpful digital PDF work called “How To Bolster Your Immune System” which you can order here

At the moment they are offering this e-book at a 70% discount, which, depending on where you live,  should make the cost under $15  USD  or CAD, even if there are taxes.

Top Ways To Relieve Stress

These days, almost everyone seems to be interested in the top ways to relieve stress.  Numerous factors, big or small, in the world may cause a person to feel stressed out. It is not a new term to come across,  especially in the age of Covid-19.

We as human beings often come across a stressful situation, such as a relationship issue, or death of a dear one.  And it is completely normal, until or unless it stops us from carrying  out all our daily tasks as we normally would.

This past year has been particularly stressful for many due to the  Covid-19 pandemic.  But even in that there are ways to help ourselves understand and deal with the stress.   Reference here to one of my previous blogs.

What is Stress?

Stress is primarily how we react to different situations. While some people may remain calm, some others may get panicked and stressed even in normal traffic, or maybe due to work pressure at their job.

Stress, if severe, can be problematic.  It may tend to adversely affect your physical health or make you feel dog-tired.  Or you may fail to concentrate on simple things.

Nevertheless, your body has a “fight-or-flight” response to such stressful situations. During this process, your body releases some hormones,  after receiving signals from your brain to boost your potential for responding to a possible threat.

Due to stress having become a common issue, this “fight-or-flight” response process can become recurring. This is when stress management is required, since it provides you with a sea of tools to fight your stress.

Make stress management your goal that you constantly want to achieve.

And do not forget to analyze your stress level from time to time. Thereafter, move on to determine what causes you to stress out.

Ways To Relieve Stress

1. Notice how you feel – No two people will experience stress in exactly the same manner.  Take note of how you behave or think when you stress and when you do not.

2. Understand the source – Pay attention to what is the triggering factor of your stress.

This factor can be anything, including your relationship with your partner or spouse, your kids, your job, your financial issue, or anything else that matters to you in some way or the other.

3. Understand your way to deal with stress – Try to identify if you become unhealthy when you become stressed out.

Maybe you start eating more than enough when you feel uneasy and strained.  Analyze if it is your regular pattern or if in fact it is caused  by a specific situation only.

4. Ask for help – Choose to not keep your stress to yourself and continue to stress, but rather to share it with friends and family and feel a bit relaxed.

Trust me, the latter will help you cope better with a stressful situation as compared to the former, in which case you might have to consult a professional psychologist in order to find an answer for your stress.

5. Keep physically active – Forget not making any physical movements at all.  Physical exercise of any kind is a great stress reliever, since the feel-good endorphins get a boost and bring an enhancement in your overall well-being.

6. Laugh more – Laughter is the best medicine.

Definitely, each of your illnesses is not treatable alone by your laughter, but, it certainly helps you feel better. You feel lighter mentally.

So, find humor in everything you see or experience.

7. Sleep enough – Get a proper sleep every night i.e. around 7-8 hours. When you sleep well, you feel well, and you react well.

8. Remind yourself – “I am special” – Don’t forget to eat well and drink lots of water every day.  Go for a walk, listen to music, and dance to your favorite number.

Be happy. Take a break from work.  Enjoy yourself.  Half of your problems will disappear.

To conclude, stress may be related to a positive or a negative situation.   Make sure you gauge your stress level keeping in mind both the aspects.

Not suddenly, but gradually, you will learn to manage your stress in the safest and most effective manner.

Understanding The Depression

In this blog we look at understanding the depression.

10 Things to Help You Understand Depression

Following are ten things to consider when viewed from the prospective of the depressed person:

1. Know That We’re Just As Confused As You.

We don’t have all the answers.   We barely have any.

Most people find the best way to start is by asking “What can I do to help?”

This is very kind, and for some even helpful, but people with depression usually always feel a sense of helplessness.

We don’t know what to do either.   If we did we’d be taking action… this shouldn’t be surprising but we don’t want depression either!

So while asking us for ideas is very thoughtful, we usually just don’t know.

2. We ENJOY Being Alone.

10 Things to Help You Understand Depression

Being alone all the time makes it easier to be depressed.

When we’re at our lowest, being alone can make us feel isolated and ignored.  However sometimes being alone is fun for us.

We can be ourselves all locked up in our room, and when we don’t feel very sad, it can even be enjoyable.

3. We’re Not Always Sad, But We’re Always Depressed.

10 Things to Help You Understand Depression

Yes, there is a difference. We’re not always ready to burst into tears, (though there are days) but we’re not happy very often.

“How are you feeling?” is also a commonly asked question; and a good one. However, when we’re not actively sad, but not happy either, it’s possible for us to feel nothing. Nothing at all!

Personally, I call it “feeling *meh”. Allow me to put it this way: at our happiest, we’re at your “kinda-happy”.

When we’re ecstatic, we’re at your “happy”. When we’re “kinda-happy”, we’re at your meh. And when we’re “meh”, we seem depressed.

Our normal mood is at a lower “happiness level” than someone without depression.  This may explain why we’re often asked “what’s wrong” when we’re not upset.

4. We’re Not Okay.

10 Things to Help You Understand Depression

Depression hurts.  It’s as simple as that.  It hurts us, it hurts you, it just hurts.

We don’t know how to end it, eventually we learn how to just barely cope.

One thing can push us over the edge to the point where we’re banging our head against a wall screaming and crying just because we forgot to buy new body wash.

It sounds silly, and it is, and someone without depression can look at that and think that it’s not a big deal, but that’s how bad it is.

We’re just barely coping and any amount of stress can be enough to push us over the edge.

This isn’t to say that you should walk on eggshells around us or that we should be treated different.

Please don’t do that, despite your best efforts it’ll end up making us feel incompetent and stupid.

This is not your fight, all we would like is your support.

5. Excessive Sleep Seems Necessary To Us.

10 Things to Help You Understand Depression

We’re so emotionally worn out from all the criticism we receive from ourselves that we’re always tired.

This is why we nap all the time, we sleep in, yet we still look tired when we’ve slept 14 hours in one day (give or take).

6. Sometimes We Want To Talk About It, Sometimes We Need To Figure It Out Ourselves.

10 Things to Help You Understand Depression

When we’re ready to talk to you, we want your undivided and unlimited attention.

This isn’t always possible, and we know that, but we still want it.

And yes, we know we’re being irrational.  However, sometimes, we don’t want to talk about it.  We want you to leave us alone and let us figure it out ourselves.

Again, irrational, and the way we explain that to you may leave you feeling hurt.  This is not our intention, please don’t take it personally.

It’s hard for us to tell you how we feel when we don’t completely understand it.

It’s important that you know that the sense of helplessness can be overwhelming.

Subconsciously, fixing our own problems (even though we usually can’t) is how we think we can get rid of that helplessness.

7. Don’t Suggest Therapy.

If we suggest it, help us out, talk it through, etc. but don’t suggest it.

We already feel different.  Suggesting therapy will only make us feel crazy, even if that’s not what you meant.

In certain cases, carefully suggesting a counselor may be helpful, but only if the person doesn’t realize they need help.

(If you plan to do this, it may be helpful to wait until the person is calm to address this.)

8. We Can Be Very Touchy.

We criticise ourselves A LOT, so anything you say can be twisted to be criticism.

Not your fault, it’s just a fact.

Please note that these are things that you should understand, not things that you should change about yourself.

You can’t solve this, but we can’t always help how we feel and it can seem like all of it is directed at you.  It’s not, we just aren’t always sure how to show this.

9. Sometimes We Want To Be Cuddled, Sometimes… Don’t Touch Us.

10 Things to Help You Understand Depression

It sounds sad but internal isolation is something we get used to.

While sometimes we want to curl up and cuddle and be held and cry and then feel better,  I find that usually we try to handle it by ourselves and don’t want to be shown any sign of sympathy.

10. We Know That It’s Hurting You Too, But We Don’t Know What To Do.

We can see the helplessness on your face when you can’t help us out, or don’t know what to do, and we’re sorry, even though there’s nothing we can do.

Maybe that’s part of the reasoning to our isolation.   We don’t want you to have to deal with it too.

We feel hurt, different, incompetent, depressed, and just generally helpless all the time.

This is in no way your fault, and we don’t know how you can help us.

All of these struggles are internal, whether they stemmed from an external source or not, and honestly the best thing you can give us is your patience and support.

Note: Not all of these will be true for everyone with depression.

Everyone’s different, with different levels of depression. You may find that only one or two of these pertain to your loved one.

It will be noted that one of the ways of dealing with depression is through meditation.  Therefore, I will link  a blog on meditation which I published here almost one year ago now.

How To Prevent The Covid – 19

The symptoms are obvious-scratchy throat, watering eyes, sneezing and coughing, and a slight fever.

Some Quick Tips to Gain a Stronger Immune System

Maybe it’s just the start of a cold or maybe it’s something more. It could be an upper respiratory infection such as Covid -19.

Here’s how you can avoid one, and what you should do if you have one.

Recognize the Symptoms

Often, an upper respiratory infection will mimic the symptoms of a cold.

The patient may run a slight fever, suffer from a scratchy or sore throat, and sneeze or cough often. They may complain about feeling slightly achy or chilled, just as with a cold.

Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them

A cold may certainly evolve into an upper respiratory infection if the patient continues to sneeze and cough, and this is especially true if someone near them has a cold and they happened to walk past while this person was in the throes of a sneezing or coughing “fit”.

Though they often are not caused by a bacterial infection, a viral infection can be a likely culprit as well.

Any time someone who suffers from emphysema or has had pneumonia begins to develop an upper respiratory infection, medical attention is necessary so the infection won’t worsen and turn into something far worse.

Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them

Asthma sufferers must also be careful around those with upper respiratory infections, as they are far more susceptible than the average person.

Avoidance and Treatment

One of the best ways to avoid an upper respiratory infection is to stay out of crowds.

This is especially true in fall and winter, when the weather and other conditions-such as children returning to school-may precipitate a more physically crowded environment.

Wash hands often with anti-bacterial soap or if soap and water are unavailable (such as when traveling) use an anti-bacterial hand sanitizer or hand-sanitizing lotion or gel.

Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them

Should a coughing or sneezing fit occur, cover the mouth and nose, and try to sneeze “into” the shoulder or elbow to avoid spraying with contaminated mucus or sputum.

If you work in a health-related field, wear a facial mask around the nose and mouth.

Also try to avoid large groups of children and the elderly, as these two age groups are far more susceptible to lung trouble and upper respiratory infections.

If the infection doesn’t begin to clear itself from the body within a few days, or if symptoms last longer than 14 days, seek medical attention.

Most respiratory infections are caused by an irritant in the mucus membranes of the nose or throat.

Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them

But sometimes the irritant can be viral or be caused by bacteria. If this is the case, a doctor may have to prescribe anti-biotic medication before the infection evolves into emphysema or pneumonia.

Upper respiratory infections can happen to anyone, but they are more likely to occur in the fall or winter months.

They are more likely to cause difficulties for small children, the elderly, or anyone who may already suffer from respiratory difficulties.

The best way to avoid infection is to frequently wash hands, avoid crowds, and seek medical attention when appropriate.

Upper Respiratory Infections and How to Avoid Them

You can be the one to take control of your own well being.

In case, you have to roll out a few improvements in your dietary patterns and in your way of life, then do it!

I trust you will discover it to be well justified.

Since having a strong immune system is vital in preventing an d fighting the Covid – 19 virus, you may also wish to avail yourself of a very inexpensive and helpful digital PDF work called “How To Bolster Your Immune System” which you can order here

At the moment they are offering this e-book at a 70% discount, which, depending on where you live,  should make the cost under $15  USD  or CAD, even if there are taxes.  In addition they are including four more related e-books as  bonuses, which makes this offer a real winner if it is acted upon right away.

Self Compassion Scale

Of the many types of arthritis, about 120 of them altogether,  osteoarthritis is the one most people are suffering from.

Anti Arthritis Solution: Ease The Pain And Ward Off Those Creaky Joints

Anyone with arthritis can endure endless pain, stiffness in the joints and struggle to move. This is the one that causes the “wear and tear” damage in the joints.

Osteoarthritis is a deterioration of the joints whereby the cartilage has worn away so bone rubs on bone.

There are many people paying big amounts of money for surgery and joint replacement which doesn’t always fix the problem.

Lifestyle changes and arthritis diets have become more successful over the years, therefore a better and safer option than replacements.

Arthritis does tend to occur more as we get older.

There are ways we can stop joint pain and its associated symptoms.

To avoid painful and expensive surgeries which cannot be reversed, therefore, the better option is to try everything that is available first.

Rheumatoid versus osteoarthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is the second most common form of arthritis. This type of arthritis is more common in younger people than osteoarthritis,

In some cases teenagers and even younger ones can get it.

The symptoms of both are similar such as pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of mobility. The treatment for both forms of arthritis is the same.

Anti Arthritis Solution: Ease The Pain And Ward Off Those Creaky Joints

The first thing required is the right diet where the body can select the right minerals to lubricate the joints.

The body will draw nutrient rich fluid from the diet to repair and keep the joints healthy and pain-free.

Research and tests have shown that over time cartilage cells can repair themselves and restore vital tissues around them.

Although, exercise is just as important as the diet itself movements of the joints and staying as active as possible is part of that healing process.

All of this is not an overnight solution; this will take time, lots of time.

Therefore many people give up and go back to drug medicine and pain killers with horrible side effects and worsening conditions.

To have some relief from pain use an infrared light, also keep the joints warm as much as possible. This is often the case for people to feel less pain by moving to a warm climate.

Weight is an issue

Anti Arthritis Solution: Ease The Pain And Ward Off Those Creaky Joints

Weight has also an influence on joints; just a few kilos you carry above the normal recommended body weight adds extra stress to the already weak joints.

That will obviously speed up their wear and tear and increase the risk of developing the condition even more.

Losing some weight can make a big difference to ease that extra pressure to the joints.

Inflammation

This is an insidious disease that can affect other organs in your body and gradually increase change and decay.

Therefore, an inflammatory condition in your body can bring on arthritis and joint pain.

The types of food you eat can worsen or improve that condition.

There are other signs brought on by inflammation such as mood issues, aches and pain, memory impairment, brain fog, etc.

Anti Arthritis Solution: Ease The Pain And Ward Off Those Creaky Joints

Any symptoms as such should not be ignored.

Choose the right diet and oils

The right type of food and supplementation is crucial to treat arthritis, such as multi-vitamins that contain vitamin C, E, zinc, B 6, copper and boron are important to have in your diet.

It has been found that some nutrients, minerals and vitamins have been deficient in diets and therefore worsens that condition when suffering from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Anti Arthritis Solution: Ease The Pain And Ward Off Those Creaky Joints

With a little bit of effort you can find a big improvement making your own homemade bone broth.

It’s good for arthritis as it has a number of important nutrients, such as minerals, silicon, glucosamine and sulphate which will help to rebuild bones and cartilage.

Also add to your diet a mixture of nuts or any other product that is rich in omega 3 oils.

You can get hardly enough of omega 3 when treating arthritis which is the best anti inflammatory agent.

Select a variety of fish in your diet as well as krill oil which is more potent than fish oil.

For cooking, frying etc. use macadamia or coconut oil which have a tremendously high smoke point.

Macadamia oil has one of the healthful fats you can eat, monounsaturated fatty acids.

Cold pressed olive oil is best for salads and toppings, as well take at least one tablespoon every day.

Here are some of the unhealthiest oils to stay away from:

Any vegetable oils may sound healthful but they are not, such as soybean, canola, safflower and cotton seed oils.

It is worth  remembering.  The most important step to a healthy painless life is the change to a healthful diet!

Long Term Effects of Opiates

Heroin, Codeine, papaverine and morphine all are related drugs, as they all have the same source.

Addiction of Opiates

These drugs are deprived from the latex produced from the plant opium, which is scientifically called papaver somniferum from the family papaveracea, by incision.

Generally, drugs that are deprived from this plant are called opioids.

Clinically:  are considered as narcotic analgesics, they are usually combined with anesthetics.

They also can be used as cough sedatives and astringent in diarrhea.

But the abuse of these drugs without consulting a physician or a pharmacist always leads to dependency and then addiction.

This article will focus on the pharmacological effect of opioids, the symptoms that result from their abuse and withdrawal and how to treat or overcome their addiction.

1- Let’s start with Morphine:

Addiction of Opiates

It’s the most strong sedative, it changes the way of perception of pain, it’s given mainly as injection before and after operations and during anesthesia, also acts as gastric sedative.

Although the CLINICAL doses DO NOT CAUSE ADDICTION.

It’s highly addictive, the body builds up tolerance to it so larger and larger doses may be necessary to have the same effect.

Morphine also depresses the function of the brain center that controls respiration so high doses of morphine can kill by respiratory arrest.

Morphine interacts mainly with the opioid receptors in certain brain cells and other anatomical structures as the gastrointestinal tract and the urinary bladder.

Effects of morphine on the body include:

1- Pin point pupil.

2- Vomiting.

3- Decrease the reflex effect of cough.

4- Morphine decreases the respiratory rate by depression of respiratory centers, which may cause death by overdosing.

5- Analgesia.

6- Morphine activates the reward system of the brain leading to the sense of contentment.

7- Morphine releases histamine from mast cells leading to urticaria

8- Increases the secretion of growth hormone.

Dependence and tolerance to the drug:

Dependence to morphine occurs due to its effects of depression, sedation and analgesia.

Withdrawal produces a series of autonomic, motor, and psychological responses that incapacitate the individual and cause serious symptoms, although it is rare that the effects cause death.

2- Codeine:

Addiction of Opiates

Codeine is a moderately strong opiate drug that is used in pain relief when combined with acetaminophen and for the suppression of coughs at doses that don’t cause analgesia.

Codeine crosses the blood brain barrier and activates the reward system in the brain by stimulating the release of certain neurotransmitters.

Some individuals use for legal medical purposes, but over time develop an addiction problem.

After prolonged use an individual develops a tolerance for this substance and needs to take more and more of the drug in order to feel the effects.

3- Heroin:

Addiction of Opiates

Heroin is considered an opiate not an opioid as it’s synthesized partially in a lab by the acetylation of morphine.

Heroin is highly addictive opiate drug which is considered to be the most common of them.

Heroin is more potent than morphine

Most street heroin is cut with substances as sugar or starch or powdered milk, therefore heroine abusers don’t actually know the true strength of the drug, and they are at high risk of overdose and death.

Heroine is commonly injected, sniffed or smoked.

Treatment of addiction of opiates:

Addiction of Opiates

It’s not simple. Because addiction is a chronic disease, people can’t simply stop using drugs for a few days and be cured.

Buprenorphine: partial agonist that has mild opiate effects and reduces withdrawal cravings ( popular in France)

Doloxine: psychotic way to detoxification, but the side-effects are nasty.

Good Blood Pressure Numbers

A question that is often asked is ‘”What are good blood pressure numbers?”

How to Say Goodbye to Blood Pressure Problems

There are about a million-and-one health concerns we have, especially as we get older.

The doctor is probably talking to you about blood pressure, weight, nutrition, respiratory health, muscular/skeletal health and more, all at the same time.

This can all be a little overwhelming, yet luckily, being all around healthy may be easier than you think.

One of the biggest issues people begin to run into, especially as they get older, is blood pressure.

Too high or too low, whatever it is, having blood pressure that’s out of whack can throw your whole system off.

Luckily there are a ton of different methods out there that can help you get your blood pressure back on track, a lot of which will improve your overall health in many different areas!

How to Say Goodbye to Blood Pressure Problems

#1 Blood Pressure Check-Ups

You’re probably already receiving regular check ups at your doctor, but it’s good for you to be able to check in-between visits yourself.

There are several different types of equipment you can use to do this, so you should choose the one that works best for you.

1. The Aneroid Monitor

This is the cheaper option, but it is a little more of a hassle. It uses a pointer in order to let you read your own blood pressure.

2. The Digital Monitor

The digital monitor is quick and easy and allows you to check your blood pressure point-blank with a digital reading.

#2 Lifestyle Changes

How to Say Goodbye to Blood Pressure Problems

This can seem like a daunting task, but when you’re being plagued with bad blood pressure, the first place you should look is in your lifestyle habits.

What does your diet look like?

Sodium is a huge culprit for giving people unhealthy blood pressure levels, so cut that out where you can.

Also, try eating more vegetables and fruits.  It becomes easier and easier, and more fun and enjoyable, to eat natural foods like this the more you do it.

You’ll begin to acquire a taste for it, and you won’t even be interested in the junk food you once ate.

If you smoke or drink excessively, try to cut back.

How to Say Goodbye to Blood Pressure Problems

It’s certainly not easy at all to cut back on these things when you’ve created a dependency to them, but with a little help from your doctor, you can make the process easier.

Exercise is another area that you should pay careful attention to.

Exercise in general will help even the healthiest looking body work better, but if you’re overweight, then you’re at a higher risk of dangerous levels of BP.

Whether you’re overweight, underweight or just right, exercise will always help your BP and overall health.

The best part about this is that eating healthy will help you in virtually all aspects of health, not just BP.

If you find it hard to get motivated, try getting an exercise buddy so that the two of you can encourage each other, and have a little fun while you’re doing it.

#3 The Numbers

#4 Fall Back On Your DoctorHow to Say Goodbye to Blood Pressure Problems

If you’ve tried these lifestyle changes and you’re still dealing with dangerous BP levels, talk to your doctor about your next options.

Doctors can provide you with professional guidance, medications, and personalized care plans that will work best for you.

What’s The Difference Between Allergies And A Cold?

In this article we will be investigating what’s the difference between allergies and a cold?

Is It An Allergy, or Is It A Cold?

After successfully surviving this winter without a cold, not even a sniffle, I was feeling pretty good about things.  After all, I do write articles about staying healthy.  Thus, I am supposed to stay healthy and not be sick.

Then it happened!   All of a sudden I began to feel a little bit puny, started sneezing, and developed a runny nose.  As a person who doesn’t usually experience allergies, I was puzzled.

I had not even been around anyone who had a cold.

But one afternoon when I was cleaning for a friend who had been hospitalized and undergoing rehab for several months, I did kick up a lot of dust, mixed with powder and cat hair that had been there for many months.

At first, I just thought I was extra tired because of having had a couple long, hard days of doing physical work.

Is It An Allergy, or Is It A Cold?

However, when the sneezing and sniffles showed up, I started analyzing.  What is this?  Do I have a cold?  Have I developed a new allergy that I never had before?

Thus, I looked at common symptoms of colds and of allergies.

My conclusion was that most likely I had acquired a dust mite allergy, which did go away in a few days.

COLD SYMPTOMS

Usually last between 3 and 14 days

Usually occurs in the winter

Frequent coughing

Sometimes the person aches

Sometimes fatigue

Often a sore throat

Itchy, watery eyes is rare

Often a runny nose

Congestion

Sneezing

ALLERGY SYMPTOMS

Is It An Allergy, or Is It A Cold?

Could last days to months, as long as you are exposed to it

Could occur anytime or be seasonal

Sometimes coughing

No aches

Sometimes fatigue

Often itchy, watery eyes

Sometimes a sore throat

Often a runny nose

Congestion

Sneezing

A cold is caused by a virus and is contagious. An allergy can be caused by many things, but is not contagious.

Is It An Allergy, or Is It A Cold?

What really causes an allergic reaction is your own immune system.

Allergies get started because of exposure.   Even though you’ve been there many times, for some reason this time, the body flags it as an invader.

At this time the immune system studies the allergy and gets ready for the next exposure by developing antibodies, which are special cells designed to protect it.

That activates other cells called mast cells. The mast cells are responsible for allergy symptoms in the lungs, skin, lining of the nose and the intestinal tract.

There are various kinds of allergens:

Is It An Allergy, or Is It A Cold?

Airborne allergens, such as pollen, animal dander, dust mites and mold.

Certain foods, such as peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish, eggs and milk.

Insect stings.

Medications, such as penicillin.

Latex, or other things you touch.

Many people become allergy victims from time to time.  If you are one of those people, you may want to take a look at some natural ways to avoid that nuisance condition.

To start with, there may be certain foods you could avoid, such as dairy products and sugar.

Otherwise, don’t eat the kind of foods that contribute to mucous and congestion.

Is It An Allergy, or Is It A Cold?

There are also certain foods that may be helpful such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, and flax seed.  You may need to drink more fluids, especially water, too.

There are also things you can do in your environment to help reduce the likelihood of getting allergies:

*Wash your bedding each week to avoid dust mites

*Use non-toxic cleaning products

*Wear a mask when doing yard work, gardening, or working in dusty conditions

*Clean your living environment.

*Clean or replace your carpet

*Get rid of clutter that collects allergens

*Check your house for mold and pollen. Get a dehumidifier

*Wash your clothes after working outside

The above lists of what to do and what not to do could probably go on and on.

As with most issues in life which affect our health, obviously the better you have taken care of yourself on a daily basis, the fewer problems you should have with other issues, such as allergies.

So, in my opinion, the standard advice applies here, too. Eat your veggies, take your vitamins, exercise, and get plenty of sleep, and drink lots of water ( one-half an ounce of water daily for each pound you weigh).

Is It An Allergy, or Is It A Cold?

What Are the Benefits of Eating Healthy?

What are the benefits of eating healthy?  In this article we will attempt to answer why that is so important

The Amazing Benefits of Eating Healthy and Detoxifying With Little Effort and Staying Healthy

When changing your diet to more healthy food that means lesser toxins will accumulate in the body. This will be leading to easier detoxification function by the cells and tissues.

When toxins and chemicals in the body are easily removed, organs in your different organ system can function better.

However, not all detox programs are as safe as some people think they are.

There are many ways of detoxifying but some of them can do the opposite.   Instead to rid the body of pesticides, heavy metals, and other chemicals it actually can make your body more toxic.

Most toxins finish up in fat cells and if these fat cells are too quickly released through a strong and severe detoxification program.  T

they can finish up in the bloodstream instead having these toxins released and flushed out the normal way.

Once these toxins enter the bloodstream they can finish up in any of the organs of the body and cause havoc on health.

That’s why detox programs that consist often of all liquids and restricting food can cause more health problems than they solve.

An effective detoxification strategy should include consuming food that supports the body’s multiple detoxification systems.

Consuming detox promoting foods such as fruits, herbs, spices vegetables, green tea, berries, coco, garlic, ginger, rosemary, turmeric, watercress etc. will help the body’s natural detoxification system with a healthy liver function.
